In this context, the CJI made key suggestions to the Telangana government. He made it clear that it would not be beneficial to proceed with the Nallamala Sagar issue through a writ petition. He expressed the opinion that a writ petition is not the right way to resolve inter-state water disputes. He suggested that if one wants to voice their arguments and objections regarding the Nallamala Sagar project, they should file a civil suit under Article 131.

He believed that this was the right legal way. He announced that the Supreme Court had disposed of the case after the Telangana government withdrew the petition. With this, there are chances that this issue will come before the court again in the form of a civil suit in the future.

The Telangana government has approached the Supreme Court expressing strong objections to the link project to transfer water from the Polavaram project to Nallamala Sagar. It has stated in its petition that the project does not have the necessary permissions and that the AP government is taking steps contrary to the Bachawat Tribunal verdict.

The Telangana government has changed its strategy after the Supreme Court suggested that it should take a stronger legal stance. It has decided to fight the case through a civil suit for a permanent solution, rather than just an administrative order. The government hopes that this will give it a chance to make strong arguments against the AP government on the transfer of Godavari waters. (Maxim News)
