United Muslim Forum Condemns Rising Saffron Violence, Appeals for Public Awareness
Hyderabad, August 13 (Maxim News): The United Muslim Forum (UMF) has strongly condemned the growing incidents of saffron hooliganism and the systematic targeting of Muslims in several Hindi-speaking states. In a joint statement, the forum expressed deep concern over the increasing lawlessness and communal aggression that threatens the democratic fabric of India.
The forum, chaired by Maulana Mufti Syed Sadiq Mohiuddin Fahim (President), includes prominent religious scholars, advocates, and social leaders such as Maulana Syed Shah Ali Akbar Nizamuddin Hussaini Sabri, Maulana Syed Shah Hassan Ibrahim Hussaini Qadri Sajjad Pasha, Maulana Shah Muhammad Jamal-ur-Rehman Mifthi, Maulana Muhammad Husamuddin Sani Jafar Pasha, Mr. Ziauddin Nayyar, Mr. Syed Muniruddin Ahmed Mukhtar (General Secretary) and several others.
In their statement, the UMF highlighted recent incidents in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Assam, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Haryana, and Delhi, calling them a serious question on the rule of law and democracy.
Attacks on Religious Sites and Properties
The forum condemned the large-scale vandalism at a 17th-century historical monument in Fatehpur, Uttar Pradesh, where more than 2,000 saffron activists stormed the inner premises of a tomb and an adjoining Eidgah. Despite heavy police presence, miscreants climbed the dome using ladders and hoisted saffron flags, damaging the structure.
Similar incidents were reported in Nainital, Uttarakhand, where several shrines, mosques, and monasteries were demolished under official patronage. The statement also mentioned targeted harassment of Bengali-origin Muslims in Delhi, Gujarat, and Maharashtra, where they were labeled as non-citizens despite valid documents.
In Assam, hundreds of Muslim homes were demolished, properties seized, and residents declared “illegal Bangladeshis” before being pushed across borders. The forum also alleged a double standard in law enforcement, pointing out that lakhs of Muslim names are being removed from voters’ lists in Bihar under SIR (Special Intensive Revision).
Concerns Over Waqf Act Amendment
The UMF expressed strong opposition to the central government’s unilateral move to issue regulations on the Waqf Act and enforce them nationwide, despite the Supreme Court reserving its judgment on the Waqf Amendment Bill.
Appeal for Awareness and Unity
Emphasizing the need for public awareness, the forum has urged mosque imams and preachers to address these pressing issues during Friday sermons, highlighting the dangers posed by communal forces.
The forum also called for solidarity with Palestine, condemning the genocide in Gaza and urging the community to pray for beneficial rains and divine mercy during the ongoing monsoon season.
Key Points Highlighted by UMF
- Condemnation of attacks on Muslim religious sites and properties.
- Opposition to illegal demolitions and voter list exclusions targeting Muslims.
- Concern over proposed Waqf Act regulations despite pending Supreme Court verdict.
