Modi said the move would benefit Indians living in Malaysia. He explained that UPI services Malaysia would work through a Virtual Payment Address, QR code, or mobile number. Therefore, users would not need to operate traditional bank accounts to make payments. He also said the system would use two factor authentication, ensuring secure transactions for users.

Meanwhile, Modi highlighted the rapid growth of UPI services in India. He said UPI is gaining strong momentum across the country. Statistics, as mentioned during the event, showed that 640 million transactions were made last year. Modi added that India’s UPI services now exceed the usage of Visa card services, which are used by most people worldwide. He also noted that more than half of the digital transactions taking place globally are happening in India. These figures underline why India is expanding UPI services Malaysia and to other countries.

At the same time, there is a possibility that the issue of extradition of controversial religious leader Zakir Naik could come up. Zakir Naik, an Indian national, has been living in Malaysia for several years. Reports suggest that pressure may be raised regarding his extradition to India.
