Urea Shortage | Hyderabad, Jan 2 (Maxim News): The second day of the Telangana Legislative Assembly winter session turned tense on Friday as the principal opposition party BRS staged a strong protest demanding a discussion on the urea shortage in the state.
As soon as the House convened in the morning, BRS Legislature Party leaders entered the Assembly holding placards and raised slogans alleging that farmers were being pushed into distress after the Congress came to power.
The opposition claimed that farmers were facing severe difficulties due to the non-availability of urea at the right time and demanded immediate steps to improve supply.
BRS members also submitted an adjournment motion seeking an exclusive discussion on the urea shortage issue, stating that it was directly affecting agricultural operations across Telangana.
Urea Shortage | Minister Sridhar Babu Counters Opposition Protest
Reacting sharply to the protest, Legislative Affairs Minister Sridhar Babu criticised the opposition’s conduct.
Sridhar Babu remarked that BRS members appeared unwilling to allow the Question Hour to function smoothly.
He said that if the opposition had genuine concerns, they should raise them through the prescribed formats instead of disrupting proceedings.
The Minister cautioned that staging protests inside the House would only lead to a waste of valuable Assembly time and would not help resolve farmers’ issues.
Point of Order Sparks Dispute
BRS MLAs later sought to raise the urea shortage issue through a Point of Order.
However, Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar rejected the request, clearly stating that Points of Order are not permitted during Question Hour. He conveyed this explicitly to senior BRS leader Harish Rao.
Despite the Speaker’s ruling, opposition members continued sloganeering, leading to chaos in the House. Heated exchanges followed between treasury benches and opposition members as the standoff over farmers’ issues intensified.
The situation underscored the growing confrontation between the government and the opposition over agricultural inputs and policy priorities in Telangana.
