US Embassy Implements New Policy Change for Student Visa Appointments
Hyderabad, Nov 24 (Maxim News): In a significant policy shift, the US Embassy in India has implemented a new policy that will impact student visa appointments at consulates in Hyderabad and various other cities across the country. Effective from November 27, 2023, all applicants for F, M, and J student visas must ensure that the passport information used when creating profiles and scheduling visa appointments matches their actual passport details.
Failure to adhere to this new policy will result in the immediate cancellation of the US visa appointment at both the US Embassy and consulates in Hyderabad and other cities. Visa Application Centers (VACs) will strictly scrutinize the accuracy of passport information, and any discrepancies will lead to appointment cancellation and forfeiture of the visa fee.
Individuals who have inadvertently used the wrong passport number to create a profile or book an appointment must take immediate corrective action. This involves creating a new profile with accurate passport information. However, it is important to note that if the old receipt is linked to a profile with incorrect passport details, a new visa fee receipt will be required.
In cases where an old passport has been lost or stolen, applicants must provide a photocopy or other valid proof of the old passport number when attending a US visa appointment at the VAC for admission.
Additionally, the US Consulate in Hyderabad has outlined a list of prohibited items that are strictly forbidden within the consulate premises. These items include cell phones, battery-operated or electronic devices, various types of bags, food and drink items, cosmetics, sealed envelopes or packages, flammable items, sharp objects, weapons, long-handled umbrellas, and powders of any kind, including religious-related powders or spices. This list is not exhaustive, and security staff may prohibit other items at their discretion.
Upon arrival at the consulate, visitors must place all belongings in a designated tray for X-ray inspection. If prohibited items are discovered, the applicant will be asked to leave the premises and return only after securing the items outside the US Consulate premises.
This policy change is intended to enhance security measures and ensure the integrity of the visa application process. Applicants are strongly advised to carefully review the new policy guidelines and ensure the accuracy of their passport information before creating profiles or scheduling appointments. (Maxim News)
