Uttam Backs Demand for Naming New Parliament Building After BR Ambedkar

Hyderabad, Sept.12 (Maxim News): Congress MP N. Uttam Kumar Reddy supported the demand for the naming of the new Parliament building after Dr. B.R. Ambedkar.

Revolutionary poet Gadar, along with representatives of All India Confederation of SC/ST organizations, including its State president K. Maheshwar Raj, met Uttam Kumar Reddy at his residence in Banjara Hills on Monday. They requested him to support the demand for the naming of the new Parliament building Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Parliament House and install Dr. Ambedkar’s statue on its premises.

Uttam Kumar Reddy assured poet Gadar and others that he would take up the issue with Rajya Sabha Chairman and Vice President Jagdeep Dhankar and Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla. He said he fully supports the idea that the new Parliament building should be named after Dr. Ambedkar, the architect of the Indian constitution.

He said, “everyone must be proud that Dr. Ambedkar drafted the world’s best Constitution for us which granted freedom and equality for all, irrespective of their caste, religion, region, sex or language”.

The Congress MP said the naming of the new Parliament building after Dr. Ambedkar and the installation of a gigantic statue on the premises would be a sincere tribute by the people of India to the author of the Indian Parliamentary system Bharat Ratna Dr. Bheemrao Ramji Ambedkar.

“BJP Govt at the Centre has been distorting history and trying to erase the huge contributions made by thousands of freedom fighters, who laid down their lives for the country. Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government takes pride in renaming the cities, places, and monuments. But it never did anything to remember and restore the memories of real freedom fighters and architects of India,” he added.

Uttam Kumar said the demand for naming the new Parliament building after Dr. Ambedkar was being made ever since its foundation stone was laid on December 10, 2020. The BJP Govt should’ve immediately accepted the demand. However, BJP Govt is showing resistance and silent opposition to the demand.

“Besides writing letters to Rajya Sabha Chairman, Lok Sabha Speaker, and the Prime Minister, I will make representations in person to push the demand for naming of new Parliament building as Dr. Ambedkar Parliament House,” he said. (Maxim News)
