Uttam Blames Police Behaviour, Liquor Policy For Veterinary Doctor’s Murder
Hyderabad, December 2 (Maxim News): Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) President and Nalgonda MP Capt. N. Uttam Kumar Reddy has blamed the irresponsible behaviour of police and erratic liquor policy of Telangana Government for the brutal murder after gang rape of a veterinary doctor in Shamshabad.
Speaking on the issue in Lok Sabha on Monday, Uttam Kumar Reddy described the incident that took place on the intervening night of November 27-28 as ‘inhuman and ghastly’. He said that a lady veterinary doctor was abducted, gang raped, murdered and her body was burnt in the highest security area of Hyderabad which is within the walking distance of Hyderabad airport.
“Telangana’s Home Minister’s extremely insensitive remark that the lady would’ve have survived if she would’ve contacted the police instead of family members is extremely insensitive. Due to the indifferent attitude of the local police officials, the family members of the victim were forced to visit 2-3 police stations by walk before an FIR was registered. When they went to the first police station they were told that the case does not come under their jurisdiction. The police officials in fact insulted the family members by saying that their daughter must have eloped with somebody. The family members were made to walk to another police station about .4-5 km away and again sent back to the same police station before some action started,” Uttam Kumar Reddy said.
The Congress MP said if the first police station would have registered the case and started the search immediately then definitely, the life of this victim could’ve been saved. “In Telangana State, one of the causes of this incident is the indiscriminate sale of liquor. Despite Supreme Court’s ruling of 2016 which prohibits sale of liquor on highways, liquor is being sold. In this particular incident, the accused were in inebriated condition,” he said while strongly condemning the incident.
Uttam Kumar Reddy demanded that the government set up fast track court, take quick verdict and hang the culprits.
Later, the Congress MPs from Telangana – Uttam Kumar Reddy, Komatireddy Venkat Reddy (Bhongir), A. Revanth Reddy (Malkajgiri) and M.A. Khan (Rajya Sabha) along with AICC Telangana Incharge R.C. Khuntia staged a dharna before Mahatma Gandhi’s statue in Parliament premises seeking justice for the victim. (Maxim News)
