Uttam Kumar Reddy Dismisses KCR’s Criticism Of Congress Govt
·Congress Government working hard to serve people: Uttam Kumar Reddy
Nalgonda, April 28: Irrigation Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy on Monday said that the Congress government was working sincerely and tirelessly to serve the people of Telangana, while former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao was trying to mislead the people after ruining the state during his 10 years of rule.
Speaking alongside Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy and other leaders at the foundation-laying ceremony for the additional block at Nalgonda Collectorate, Uttam Kumar Reddy said that KCR, who pushed Telangana into a deep financial crisis, was now shamelessly attacking a Congress government that was working hard to repair the damage. “KCR destroyed Telangana in ten years. Now he is targeting those who are working sincerely to rebuild the state,” he said.
Uttam Kumar Reddy said the Congress government lost nearly five to six months because of elections after coming to power but had not wasted a single day since. “Since taking oath as a Minister on December 7, 2023, I have not taken even a single day’s leave. We are working round the clock to serve the people,” he said.
He pointed out that the BRS government spent Rs 1.81 lakh crore on irrigation projects but failed to bring any significant increase in ayacut. “They spent Rs 27,000 crore on the Palamuru-Rangareddy Project and Rs 9,000 crore on the Sitarama Lift Irrigation Project, but not a single acre received irrigation water,” he noted.

He said the Kaleshwaram project, for which nearly Rs 1 lakh crore was spent, turned out to be a disaster. “The Medigadda, Annaram, and Sundilla barrages collapsed during the BRS regime due to poor design, poor construction, and poor operation and maintenance. The BRS leaders were more interested in commissions than in serving farmers,” he charged.
In contrast, Uttam Kumar Reddy said, the Congress government was committed to completing all pending irrigation projects in a transparent and honest manner. “We are determined to complete the Srisailam Left Bank Canal (SLBC) project, which was neglected by KCR and BRS for ten years. SLBC will become a reality under the Congress government,” he assured.
He also accused KCR of betraying Telangana’s farmers by agreeing to an unfair Krishna water allocation. “KCR agreed to just 299 TMCs of Krishna waters during bifurcation, causing huge injustice to Telangana. Today, the Congress government is fighting to secure Telangana’s rightful share in Krishan River,” he said.
Taking a strong swipe at KCR, Uttam said, “Since losing power, KCR has not attended even a single session of the Telangana Assembly. He is afraid to face the elected representatives. But he comes to public meetings like in Warangal to spread lies and cover up his failures.”
Highlighting the achievements of the Congress government, Uttam Kumar Reddy said Telangana was on track to achieve the highest paddy production in the country. “In 2024-25, Telangana will produce a total of 281 lakh metric tonnes of paddy -153.5 LMT in Vanakalam and 70.13 LMT in Rabi. Despite the collapse of Kaleshwaram structures, we are achieving record production,” he said.
He said Telangana’s free fine rice distribution scheme is receiving a great response from the people and called it the largest food security initiative in India’s history.
The scheme replaces coarse grains that were previously distributed, 80–90% of which were not even edible. “Most beneficiaries did not consume the earlier PDS rice, leading to large-scale diversion and misuse. Government supplies worth Rs 7,000 crore to Rs 8,000 crore were being siphoned off annually. It had almost turned into a mafia,” he said.
He also exposed the BRS government’s failure to support the poor. “At the time of Telangana’s formation in 2014, there were 89.73 lakh white ration cards. In 10 years, the BRS government added only 49,479 new cards. They ignored the needs of lakhs of families,” he said. “In contrast, the Congress government has already received nearly 30 lakh new ration card applications in just a few months. After verification, we will ensure ration benefits to 3.10 crore people -about 84% of Telangana’s population,” he added.
Uttam Kumar Reddy said the Congress government was focusing on completing irrigation projects, expanding welfare schemes, and boosting agriculture production, while KCR and the BRS were busy spreading lies to hide their failures. “The people of Telangana know the truth. They have already rejected KCR once and will not be misled again,” he asserted.
Earlier in the day, Uttam Kumar Reddy led a huge bike rally in Nalgonda town and inaugurated three Lift Irrigation Schemes under the AMR SLBC HLC system at Bakkathaikunta, Ponugode, and Narsingbatla-Domalapally, built at a cost of over Rs 46 crore. He also laid the foundation stone for the construction of an additional block at the Nalgonda Collectorate at a cost of Rs 36 crore. Addressing a large gathering, he reaffirmed that the Congress government would complete all pending projects and bring real development to Telangana. (Maxim News)
