Modi then spoke about the conditions under British rule and the impact of Vande Mataram at that time. He said, “The British tried to divide the country. The slogan of Vande Mataram helped India not to be divided. The role of the Vande Mataram song in the unity of Bengal was immeasurable. A ban was imposed on chanting the slogan of Vande Mataram. People fought despite the ban and orders. The British committed atrocities because they could not hear the slogans of Vande Mataram. They severely suppressed the activists in many places in the country.”

His remarks highlighted how the song shaped public feeling during the freedom struggle. He said people continued to chant it even when the British tried to suppress it. He also said that the song gave courage and unity to people across regions.
