VH Held For Trying to Re-Install Ambedkar Statue In Punjagutta
Hyderabad, June 18 (Maxim News): The Punjagutta police on Tuesday arrested senior Congress leader V. Hanumantha Rao and V. Harsha Kumar for trying to install statue of Constitution architect Dr B R Ambedkar at Punjagutta crossroads. The police prevented Hanumantha Rao from installing the statue and seized it when it was brought in a lorry. The police whisked then away to the Bollaram police station. The Congress leaders brought the statue to Punjagutta at around 5 am and tried to install it but in vain.
Speaking on the occasion, VH alleged that the State government was insulting BR Ambedkar. He said the State government did not take any steps to re-install the statue at the Punjagutta crossroads after it was removed from the site. He said their arrest was not proper as they came to the site to re-install the statue.
Hanumantha Rao warned the State government that they would demolish the YSR statue located at the same spot if the police didn’t bring back the Ambedkar statue to the same place. At this juncture, the police used force to arrest Hanumantha Rao and other leaders. Annoyed with this, he tried to demolish the YSR statue by pulling it with a rope. However, he was soon overpowered and taken to Bollaram police station. (Maxim News)
