Vice President Polls: AIMIM to Support INDIA Bloc Nominee Sudarshan Reddy
Vice President Polls | Hyderabad, Sept. 7: The All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) has announced its support for INDIA bloc Vice-Presidential candidate Justice B. Sudarshan Reddy.
Party chief and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi made the announcement on Saturday through a post on X, describing Reddy as “a fellow Hyderabadi and a respected jurist.”
Owaisi said the Telangana Chief Minister’s Office had reached out to him seeking AIMIM’s support. He further confirmed that he personally spoke to Justice Reddy over the phone and conveyed his best wishes.
Justice Sudarshan Reddy, a retired Supreme Court judge, was declared as the united Opposition’s nominee for Vice President on August 19.
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge described the contest as an “ideological battle,” calling Reddy “pro-poor” and a “champion of economic and social causes.”

Reddy is set to face NDA nominee and current Maharashtra Governor C.P. Radhakrishnan in the September 9 election. A seasoned legal professional, Reddy practiced law in Andhra Pradesh, served as Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court, and was elevated to the Supreme Court in 2007 before retiring in 2011.
With AIMIM extending its backing, Justice Reddy has gained support beyond the core INDIA bloc, marking a significant development in the high-stakes Vice-Presidential poll.
