HYDERABAD: Known globally as the ‘City of Pearls,’ Hyderabad is pivoting toward a high-end future. Under the ambitious Telangana Rising 2047 Vision Document, the state government has unveiled a roadmap to transform the capital into a premier destination for luxury lifestyle brands and a pioneer in the “wellness economy.”
Global Fashion Corridors & The ‘Milan’ Connection
To cement its status on the international map, Telangana plans to establish Global Fashion Corridors in partnership with fashion powerhouses including Italy, France, Japan, the UK, and the USA.
Central to this strategy is the launch of the Annual Hyderabad Fashion Month. Much like the prestigious fashion weeks in Paris or Milan, this event aims to position the city as India’s primary destination for luxury retail and high fashion.
Boosting Local Labels: The Acceleration Program
The vision extends beyond importing luxury; it’s about exporting Telangana’s craft. A new Brand Acceleration Programme will support local textile, accessory, and jewelry designers through:
- Design Incubation: Mentorship from global industry leaders.
- Retail Integration: Placing local brands in international boutiques.
- Export Readiness: Streamlining logistics for global markets.
The Rise of ‘Sleep City’
In a unique move, the government plans to establish India’s first ‘Sleep City’ on the outskirts of Hyderabad. This dedicated cluster will focus on the booming $500 billion global wellness market, specializing in:
- Smart Fabrics: Textiles that regulate temperature and monitor health.
- Comfort Tech R&D: Research into advanced bedding and ergonomics.
- Wellness Manufacturing: Producing high-end sleep products for global export.
Empowering the ‘Future-Ready’ Artisan
To bridge the gap between ancient heritage and modern luxury, the state will invest in Textile 4.0. This includes digital fashion training and advanced material innovations for the local workforce.
A Global Textile and Design Fellowship will also be introduced, sending local artisans and students to elite institutions in Milan, Paris, and New York to learn world-class design standards.
Heritage Meets Digital Innovation
The modernization plan ensures that traditional clusters like Pochampally, Gadwal, and Narayanpet are not left behind.
- Digital Artisan Clusters: Connecting rural weavers directly with global design houses.
- Handloom & Handicraft Museum: A new landmark to showcase Telangana’s artistic history to international tourists.
- Tool Upgrades: Providing modern techniques to artisans in Nirmal and Cheriyal to enhance product quality for luxury markets.
