Wakf Board appointment draws flak
Hyderabad: Secretary of Minorities Welfare, Syed Omer Jaleel, faulted the appointment of Wakf Board assistant secretary Ziauddin Ghouri, as the incharge CEO. A person holding the office of CEO should be of the rank of Deputy Collector and it was for the government to appoint him, Jaleel said.
Speaking to presspersons here on Saturday, he said he had issued a memo to Ghouri for occupying the office of CEO against the Wakf Board rules. The controversial appointment was made by members of the Wakf Board at its first meeting last week. “I have sent a report to the Chief Minister and he will take a call on it “, Jaleel said.
He said for the first time, the Minorities Welfare Department would be spending close to Rs 1100 crore of the 2016-17 budget. Last year the government earmarked Rs 1200 crore budget and later added another Rs 120 crore. So far Rs 1037 crore were released while bills for Rs 420 crore were pending with Treasury and Finance Department. “This is the first time we are able to spend so much budget”, Jaleel said.
