Waqf Board Chairman Absent, Welfare Schemes and Salaries on Hold

  • Waqf Board Chairman Syed Azmathullah Hussaini Absence Raises Questions, Public complaints, welfare schemes, and staff salaries unresolved

Waqf Board | Hyderabad, Sept. 9 (Maxim News): The Telangana State Waqf Board has come under increasing scrutiny as its Chairman remains absent from office, leaving critical issues unresolved.

For over a month, the Board has been functioning without a Chief Executive Officer (CEO) after the state government removed the CEO Mohammad Asadullah following High Court orders.

The appeal verdict on the removal is still pending, adding to the uncertainty over the Board’s functioning. Land grabbing complaints, stalled pensions, and unpaid salaries deepen crisis

According to sources, citizens from different districts have been visiting the Waqf Board headquarters to meet the Chairman and present their grievances.

However, they allege that the Chairman has not been attending the office, reportedly due to political commitments.

Efforts to reach him directly have also failed, as calls to his mobile phone reportedly respond with the message: “The mobile you are trying is out of network.”

This absence has left a backlog of unresolved complaints, particularly regarding land grabbing cases, which require urgent intervention.

The crisis has further disrupted welfare measures. Widows’ pensions and other social welfare schemes linked to the Board have reportedly come to a standstill, leaving many beneficiaries without essential financial support including imam and muezzin.

Staff members have also expressed concern over unpaid salaries. Regular staff are demanding pending payments, while contract workers have reportedly not been paid for two months.

The lack of a CEO has further complicated matters, as the Chairman alone cannot take administrative action.

Waqf Mafia

Activists have linked the governance vacuum to the alleged rise of a land mafia operating around Waqf properties. They claim that the removal of the CEO may have been part of an agenda to weaken checks and facilitate land encroachments. Allegations have also surfaced that some Waqf Board inspectors are colluding with land grabbers, further eroding public trust.

Awaiting verdict on Board’s validity. The High Court’s final verdict will play a decisive role in shaping the future of the Waqf Board. It will not only address the legality of the CEO’s removal but also determine the functioning and accountability of the Board.

Until then, both the staff and the community remain in limbo, waiting for clarity while the institution grapples with leadership, welfare, and credibility challenges. (Maxim News)
