Experts point out that many employees have not received training comparable to government officials, leaving them ill-prepared to handle complex legal, financial, and administrative tasks.

A significant portion of the workforce consists of contract staff, and permanent employees have not been formally appointed to proper channels, leading to gaps in accountability and efficiency.

Property management continues to be a major concern. Many rented Waqf properties generate minimal income for the board, it is alleged that the primary tenants are earning substantial profits.

This discrepancy has raised questions about transparency, rent policies, and the need for regular audits to ensure the board benefits fairly from its assets.

Another longstanding issue is the management of records. The Waqf Board and District Collector’s holds extensive documents in Urdu and Persian, some dating back decades, but very few employees are proficient in these languages.

As a result, important historical and legal records remain underutilized, limiting the board’s and District Collector’s ability to provide accurate information to government authorities or take timely legal action.

Observers emphasize the need for better coordination with the Revenue Department to safeguard Waqf properties and ensure compliance with legal regulations.

While successive governments have promised to address these issues, critics say the promises have largely been symbolic, comparing the response to the proverb, “Mein Teray Kaan’on ku kush kara toh meray Kaan’on kush kara” (“You made my ears happy, I made your ears happy”). Despite repeated assurances, meaningful action has remained limited for decades.

This history raises a pressing question today: will the Congress government, led by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, step forward to protect the properties of the Muslim minority through the Waqf Board, strengthen its administration, and promote the welfare of the community via initiatives under the State Minorities Corporation?

Stakeholders argue that urgent reforms, including staff training, permanent appointments, modern record management, and improved property revenue, are essential to ensure that the Waqf Board functions effectively and benefits the community as intended.
