Waqf Umeed Portal Registration Urged By Shabbir Ali
- Waqf Umeed portal review highlights gaps in rural registration
- Waqf Umeed portal extension to help cover pending properties
Hyderabad, December 16: Advisor to the Telangana Government Mohammed Ali Shabbir on Tuesday stressed the need for 100 percent registration of Waqf properties on the Centre’s Umeed portal. He urged officials to take proactive steps to include all remaining institutions. He said special focus was needed on rural areas, where fear and confusion continued to slow the process.
Shabbir Ali addressed a review meeting on Waqf property registration on the Waqf Umeed portal. Minority Welfare Minister Md Azharuddin attended the meeting. Haj Committee Chairman Syed Gulam Afzal Biabani, TMREIS President Faheem Qureshi, and other officials were also present. During the meeting, Shabbir Ali reviewed the current progress and raised concerns over unregistered properties.
He said the Telangana State Waqf Board had registered nearly 74 percent of Waqf properties on the portal. However, he noted that many Ashoorkhanas, mosques, and other Waqf institutions remained outside the system. He said most of these were located in villages. According to him, delays, legal doubts, and fear among caretakers were the main reasons. Many caretakers believed the government might take over their properties after registration.
Shabbir Ali explained that the registration process had earlier suffered a four month delay. This delay followed a pending Supreme Court case. He also referred to concerns raised by the All India Muslim Personal Law Board and community leaders. Meanwhile, he said the Waqf Tribunal later granted a three month extension for the portal. Therefore, authorities could continue registration and verification of Waqf documents. He added that the Tribunal also directed the Government of India to reopen access to the Umeed portal.

He also cited Union Minister Kiren Rijiju’s statement, which encouraged states to complete registrations through local courts. Shabbir Ali said officials had earlier approached the judiciary for clarity. However, they were advised to wait until the portal reopened. Later, discussions led to agreement on resuming the process through the portal.
Shabbir Ali said gazette notified Waqf institutions had already been uploaded. However, the extension would now help include many pending properties. Therefore, he urged a fresh district wise campaign. He said delegations must visit villages to reassure mosque committees and dargah caretakers. He stressed that registration aims to protect Waqf properties, not threaten them.
He also suggested hiring young IT professionals through reputed agencies to speed up data entry. He said depending only on older volunteers slowed progress. He praised Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and Minority Welfare Minister Md Azharuddin for their commitment to safeguarding Waqf properties through the Waqf Umeed portal.
