WATCH | Akbaruddin Owaisi takes oath as the Protem Speaker of Telangana Assembly

Hyderabad, December 9 (Maxim News): Akbaruddin Owaisi, a member of the Telangana Assembly representing the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) party, took oath as Protem Speaker of newly-elected 3rd Telangana State Legislative Assembly in the name of Allah (SWT), during a ceremony in Hyderabad here on Saturday.

Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan led the oath-taking at Raj Bhavan, where Owaisi pledged to serve faithfully. Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and the previous Assembly Speaker, Pocharam Srinivas Reddy, also attended the ceremony.

Akbar Owaisi will now be responsible for administering oaths to all the newly-elected members of the Assembly.

Other important figures present included Ministers D. Sridhar Babu, Tummala Nageswara Rao, and Seethakka, along with former minister T. Harish Rao.

Governor Soundararajan announced that Akbaruddin Owaisi will act as Speaker until a permanent one is chosen, in line with the Constitution.

Akbar Owaisi’s seniority in the Assembly, having been elected six times in a row from Chandrayangutta constituency, led to his appointment as Protem Speaker.

This marks the second consecutive time that an AIMIM member holds this position, following Mumtaz Ahmed Khan’s appointment in 2018.

The ceremony signifies the continuation of democratic processes within the Telangana Assembly.

It is to mention here that the new Speaker of Telangana Assembly to be announced today, the notification for the election of the new Speaker of the Telangana Assembly will be released today. The party leadership has already selected Gudam Prasad Kumar, MLA from vikarabad, to be the next Speaker.

This procedural formality is expected to be a quick process, as the decision has already been made. Traditionally, the senior-most member of the Assembly acts as the Protem Speaker until the newly elected members are sworn in and a new Speaker is chosen formally. (Maxim News)
