Officials took the step after the property tax linked to the residence remained unpaid for a long time. Earlier, the civic body had issued advance notices asking for payment of the dues. However, there was no response. Therefore, revenue department officials visited the property on Tuesday morning and sealed it.

They locked the main gate of the house and pasted a notice at the entrance. The action came as part of a wider drive by the civic body to recover pending taxes before the end of the financial year on March 31. Meanwhile, officials made it clear that they are acting as per rules and are not giving any special treatment to properties owned by well-known personalities.

Jayalalithaa used to stay at this residence frequently during her film career. She also continued to visit the house after entering politics. The property was considered one of her preferred homes in Hyderabad. However, after her death, locals say that the property faced issues such as inheritance disputes and lack of regular oversight. As a result, the tax dues increased over time.

Meanwhile, the GHMC has intensified its focus on properties with large pending dues across the city. Officials stated that they are identifying such properties and taking strict action to ensure tax recovery. The sealing of this residence has now drawn attention, as it involves a prominent political figure.
