The Telangana Excise Department has seized 192 bottles of illicit liquor worth Rs 5.76 lakh from Pahadi Shareef in Hyderabad. The seizure took place on November 4 after authorities received a tip-off about illegal liquor movement into the city. The bottles were traced to Goa, Delhi, and Puducherry, and were being transported into Telangana through both air and surface routes. Officials have issued notices to 20 people found in possession of the bottles as investigations continue.

The crackdown marks another major strike by enforcement teams against liquor smuggling networks exploiting the Pahadi Shareef corridor. Over the past few months, this area has turned into a key smuggling route, with excise officials and networks engaged in a constant cat-and-mouse chase. These illegal consignments often include high-end brews from Goa, premium wines from Puducherry, and branded liquor from Delhi, showing the organised and diverse nature of the illicit trade.

Authorities said the seizure underlines how differences in liquor regulations and pricing across states continue to encourage smuggling activities. The illegal flow of non-duty-paid liquor (NDPL) not only impacts government revenue but also poses health and safety risks for consumers.

Meanwhile, the operation comes amid renewed enforcement efforts in Telangana ahead of the festive season. Officials have intensified checks on air cargo, courier shipments, and road transport to counter the growing demand for illicit liquor during holiday periods. The seizure at Pahadi Shareef adds to a series of recent busts in the region, reinforcing the government’s focus on curbing illegal trade and protecting state excise income.

As cases and investigations progress, authorities remain on high alert to dismantle networks exploiting inter-state regulatory gaps. The Excise Department has urged citizens to report suspicious activity, noting that strict penalties await those involved in the smuggling and sale of banned or untaxed liquor.
