WATCH: Man Attacks Wife With Brick In Hyderabad, Arrested

Hyderabad: A man was arrested on Monday after he attempted to kill his wife by repeatedly hitting her with cement bricks in Hyderabad following an argument outside a hospital, police said. The attack was captured on CCTV.

In the footage, the accused, identified as Md Basharath (32), an interior designer, is seen standing next to his bike and waiting for his wife on April 1. When his wife, Shabana Parveen, 22, is seen at the spot, he pushes her to the ground and hits her head and chest with bricks nearly 12 to 14 times, leaving her critically injured and unconscious.

Basharath then goes back to his bike and flees the spot, the CCTV clip shows.

A local resident, Chintala Prajwal Reddy, witnessed the attack and intervened when he saw Basharath lifting bricks to strike the woman. As he tried to stop the assault, the accused turned on him and attempted to attack him as well.

The eyewitness managed to escape and raise an alarm, informing a nearby paan shop owner. He also tried reaching out to the police, but the call did not go through.

Soon after, staff from SIA Life Hospital arrived at the spot and took Parveen to the hospital. She is currently in an unconscious state and undergoing treatment.

Parveen had been admitted to the hospital a few days earlier due to health issues and had reportedly told the staff that she was afraid to return home, fearing assault by her husband.

Investigations revealed that the couple met in January 2023 during a religious gathering in Rajasthan. They married in October 2024 in Kolkata and later held a reception in Hyderabad.

Following their marriage, differences reportedly emerged and Basharath allegedly subjected Shabana to both physical and mental abuse.

Police arrested Basharath and registered a case under Section 109(1) (attempt to murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. They seized blood samples, a broken tooth from the scene, the motorcycle used in the crime and the mobile phone of the accused.
