Water Supply Hit: Hyderabad Water Works MD Checks Bulkapur
Hyderabad, Mar 9 (Maxim News): Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board Managing Director Ashok Reddy inspected the emergency repair works of a major pipeline burst at Bulkpur on Monday morning.
Officials identified a rupture in the 1200 mm diameter PSC gravity main pipeline early in the morning. The pipeline carries water from Singapore to Khanapur. Authorities detected the damage around 5 am near Bulkapur village.
Soon after receiving the information, officials stopped water supply from Singapore and Khanapur. This step helped prevent further water loss from the pipeline.
Bulkapur Water Pipeline Burst Affects Supply in Several Areas
Officials began emergency repair works on a war footing. The restoration work started at about 7 am on Monday.
During his inspection, Managing Director Ashok Reddy reviewed the progress of the repairs with department officials.
He asked operations and maintenance teams and transmission officials to coordinate closely during the repair process. He also directed them to complete the works as quickly as possible.
Meanwhile, he instructed officials to ensure that residents in affected areas do not face serious problems. He asked them to supply drinking water through tankers wherever the pipeline leak disrupted supply.
Officials said the repair works are currently in progress. The teams expect to complete the restoration by around 10 pm on Monday night.
After the repair work finishes, officials will restore water supply in phases. This will help stabilise the distribution system before normal supply resumes fully.
The pipeline burst affected water supply in several areas. These include Gandipet, Kokapet, Narsingi, Manchirevula, Puppalaguda, Khanapur and Manikonda.
In addition, some areas under the Shaikpet Reservoir command and parts of the Bojagutta Reservoir command also faced supply interruptions.
