West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee Sustains Major Injury, Admitted In Hospital

Bengal, March 14: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has suffered a major injury in an accident, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) said on Thursday. She has been taken to the state-run SSKM hospital in Kolkata.

According to a hospital official, the 69-year-old politician slipped and hit her head on a furniture at her home, shortly after she returned from an event in South Kolkata’s Ballygunge.

The TMC also posted some pictures of Mamata Banerjee on the social media platform X (formally Twitter) in which her forehead can be seen bleeding. “Our chairperson @MamataOfficial sustained a major injury. Please keep her in your prayers,” the party wrote.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday night wished a “quick recovery” for Mamata Banerjee. “I pray for a quick recovery and the best health for Mamata Didi,” he wrote on X.

Meanwhile, state BJP president Sukanta Majumdar wished for a “speedy recovery” of the CM. “We wish for the speedy recovery of the chief minister…We pray to God that she recovers soon and returns to her normal health,” the BJP leader told ANI.

Several other leaders also wished her a speedy recovery on X.

“Distressed to see pictures of an injured Mamata Banerjee after sustaining serious injuries today. Prayers for her swift recovery,” Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti said.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin wrote: “Shocked and deeply concerned about the road accident involving Hon’ble Chief Minister of West Bengal @MamataOfficial didi. My thoughts are with her during this difficult time, and I wish her a speedy recovery.”

Odisha chief minister Naveen Patnaik wrote on X, “Deeply concerned to know that West Bengal Chief Minister @MamataOfficial suffered injury after meeting with an accident. Praying for her speedy recovery.”
