Woman Robbed Of Rs. 2.7 Crore In Name Of Investing In Stock Market

Hyderabad, May 4 (Maxim News) : A 57 year old housewife from Champapet lost Rs. 2.7 crore after being tricked by cyber criminals. The cyber criminals pretended to be in the stock market .Investment advisors and extorted money from her.

According to police, the victim, an LL.B graduate, saw an advertisement on Facebook about stock investment in February this year. When she clicked on it, she was redirected to a WhatsApp group called ‘Ideal Investment Guide6’. The group was run by an admin named Neha Garwal. The website is ‘stocks bxtrade-pro.top’. The fraudsters convinced the victim to invest in initial public offerings (IPSs), over-the-counter (OTC) stocks and institutional stocks through a trading app called BX-Trade. She did as they told her.

However, when she later tried to withdraw her money, the fraudsters demanded additional payments in the name of service charges and security deposits.

Between March 19 and April 29, the victim transferred a total of Rs. 2.7 crore in 15 transactions to the bank accounts suggested by the fraudsters. Out of the Rs. she had invested Rs. 1.7 crore as of April 23, showing her total income on the app as Rs. 8.45 crore. When the victim tried to withdraw the money, the fraudsters forced her to pay a little over R. 1 crore for various charges on April 29.

They were asking for another Rs. 1.8 crore, which raised suspicions. She finally realised it was a scam and approached the Rachakonda police on Friday. “The complainant realised that she was being cheated as the fraudsters kept asking for more money for withdrawals,” said a Rachakonda-based cybercrime officer.

Based on the victim’s complaint, a case has been registered at Rachakonda Cyber Crime Police Station under sections 316(2), 319(2), 318(4), 338 and sections 66 (C&D) of the IT Act. The Cyber Crime Unit has started an investigation to identify the culprits and recover the stolen funds. (Maxim News)
