Women Farmers Display Over 70 Varieties Of Seeds Of Traditional Crops
Sangareddy/Hyderabad, April 30 (Maxim News): Women farmers of Deccan Development Society (DDS) displayed over 70 varieties of seeds of different traditional crops, which were cultivated by the farmers across Zaheerabad area. Most of these crops have now almost disappeared.
The crops include millets, pulses, oil seeds, and grains of various crops. Over 60 women farmers from 30 villages, who were called ‘seed protectors’, gathered at the premises of DDs at Pasthapur during a programme organised on the occasion of International Seed Day.
Woman farmer Jadala Chandramma, a resident of Bidakanne, displayed some 58 varieties of seeds, bagging first prize while Karne Narsamma, a resident of Gunjoti, and Kandakam Mogulamma, a resident of Potlapally, bagged second and third prize as they exhibited 55 and 56 varieties of seeds respectively. The visitors went through the exhibition and interacted with the farmers to know the importance of seeds. (Maxim News)
