Work Begins For Restoration of Step Well at OU

Hyderabad, March 3 (Maxim News)”: Today there was a lot of buzz at the University College of Education at Osmania University, the Restoration work of the 18th Century Stepwell began today.

Kalpana Ramesh from GHMC known for her efforts in restoring the stepwell at Bansilalpet has taken initiation in doing the same at Osmania University too. She conveyed that there are 80 odd step wells in Hyderabad and they were successful in restoring around ten. She said that Restoration would have a two-pronged effect on mitigating the issue of urban flooding and meeting sustainability goals of meeting water needs.

She classified the stepwell under the control of temples, mosques, and old independent stepwell. She conveyed that it’s a herculean task but the effort is worth it.

She thanked VC, OU for his initiative, and all the NGOs, volunteer groups, Corporates offering CSR. She urged the students from History, Archeology, Geology, Engineering, and other departments to be a part of this project, documentation and bringing out a book on the entire Restoration process.

She conveyed that the entire process will be into stages of clearing unnecessary vegetation-garbage around the well, desilting, structural Restoration, and beautification of the stepwell.

Meena Ravindran, an alum of OU and retired Manager from ECIL, said that she was delighted to associate with this historic event.

Lions Club, Environmental Studies Department from St. Francis Women’s College, Begumpet, Clean Green from Wanaparthy, NSS volunteers from OU, and many NGOs were there to witness and be a part of the historic event.

Pheko Mat, another NGO offered its services in making the University litter free. It was recalled as a positive response to a Tweet by Minister K. T. Rama to a second-year M.Ed student Md. Naseer from the University College of Education was the genesis of this event.

Vice-Chancellor, Sr. Prof. D. Ravinder, expressed his happiness in associating with multiple bodies in the Restoration work and conveyed that it’s another Milestone in the annals of Osmania University’s history. Prof. P. Laxminarayana, Registrar, OU, Prof. Murthy, Principal, UCE, Prof. Satyanarayana, Dean, UCE, Prof. T. Mrunalini, Director EMRC, Professors, Principals, Directors, Deans, and students were present in large numbers for the event. (Maxim News)
