World Cup Final With Australia After 20 Years: Will India Make Up
Hyderabad, Nov 17 (Maxim News): The time has come for the final match in ODI World Cup-2023. The India-Australia teams are going to know each other in the title fight to be held at Ahmedabad on November 19.
The Indian team is hoping to avenge the 2003 World Cup defeat by defeating the Kangaroos in this final. On the other hand, Australia is also planning to defeat Team India and become world champions for the sixth time.
So far, India and Australia have met only once in the final of the ODI World Cup tournament. In the ODi World Cup 2003, the India-Aussie teams competed in the final at Johannesburg. Team India suffered a heavy defeat by Australia by 125 runs. Batting first, Australia posted a huge score of 359 runs for the loss of 2 wickets in the allotted 50 overs. Australian captain Ricky Ponting (140 not out) broke out with a wonderful century.
Along with Ponting, Damian Martin (88 not out) and Adam Gilchrist (57) played a crucial innings. In this match, Team India captain Sourav Ganguly was used by 8 bowlers simultaneously, Harbhajan Singh alone took two wickets. All other bowlers failed miserably. The star bowler Javagal Srinath scored 87 runs.
India got a big shock right from the start as they entered the ring with a target of 360 runs. Master blaster Sachin Tendulkar was dismissed by Glenn McGrath in the first over. However, another dashing opener Virender Sehwag blasted the opposition bowlers with boundaries. Sehwag tried to improve the innings with captain Sourav Ganguly.
However, Sourav Ganguly (24) and Mohammed Kaif lost their wickets to India in a row and again fell into trouble. After that, Sehwag and Rahul Dravid raised hopes for the match again with their amazing innings. But Sehwag who is batting brilliantly with 82 runs, was run out by Lehman’s sensational throw. India is in trouble again.
But everyone thought that Yuvraj Singh, who came into the crease after Sehwag’s dismissal, and Rahul Dravid, who had already established himself in the crease, would do some miracles. But Dravid was bowled by Andy Bichel’s brilliant delivery.
Soon Yovraj also joined the pavilion, With this, the hopes of the Indian fans of the World Cup were dashed. In the end, India was bowled out for 234 runs and lost by 125 runs. Among the Aussie bowlers, McGrath was hit with 3 wickets, Symonds, and Brett Lee got two wickets, and Richel and Hogg got a wicket each.
