World Wildlife Day Celebrated In Hyderabad
Hyderabad, March 3 (Maxim News): World Wildlife Day is celebrated today at Nehru Zoological park, here to promote the importance aquatic eco-systems and their contribution in maintaining ecological balance.
On 20 December 2013, at its 68th session, the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) proclaimed 3rd March, the day of signature of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES), as UN World Wildlife Day to celebrate and raise awareness of the world’s wild animals and plants.
The theme for this year “Life Below Water for People and Planet” is explained to the visitors and school children through talk shows and quiz programmes were also conducted on the theme.
The visitors were given information on various aquatic eco systems, species diversity,
habit and habitat, life span, sexual maturity and status in the wild. The Zoo Education Officer, Zoo Biologists and Shaik Hussain Project Scientist, Universal Eco Foundation, Pondicherry, organised these talk shows and programmes with the help of Friends of Snakes and other Wildlife educationists. In the Crocodile show, snakes show and talk shows conducted on the occasion, emphasis was laid on the species diversity of all category of wetlands, biology of species and conservation of wetlands.

Kshitija, IFS, Curator, NZP, Hyd , Syed Maqsood Mohiuddin, ACF, NZP, Hyd and Bhavani Shankar, AC-2, NZP, Hyd. were also present on the occasion. Speaking on the occasion Munindra, IFS, Addl.PCCF, emphasized the importance of wet land ecosystems and urged one and all to conserve the wet lands for sustainability and maintenance of ecological balance.
