Youngster Held For Involving In Illegal Kidney Transplants
Hyderabad: The Banjara Hills police arrested one person for cheating a family on the pretext of arranging a kidney transplant surgery in Turkey after collecting Rs.34 lakh from them.
AR Srinivas, Joint Commissioner of Police and incharge DCP (West), said the suspect, DS Pavan Srinivas (25), a MBA graduate staying in Vanasthalipuram and a native of Guntur, collected the money towards the cost of a kidney transplant surgery, accommodation and payment to a kidney donor.
“After collecting the money, he cut off contacts with the family and avoided them. Since December last year, Srinivas has been missing and was caught on Friday by the police,” said the official.
Pavan was involved in three cases registered in the two Telugu States. He was also arrested for overstaying in Colombo by the Sri Lanka police and had spent close to one and half years in jail in Lanka. In 2013, he himself donated a kidney and after realising the huge money potential, he started gathering kidney donors, the DCP said, adding that so far, Srinivas had facilitated around nine kidney transplants.
“For each transplant. he earned a commission of around Rs. 6 lakh. This was apart from the transplant costs, amount to be paid to the donor and accommodation expenses in Lanka where most of the transplants were done,” the DCP said.
