Zimbabwe Bowlers Stun Afghanistan, Dismissed for Just 157 After Historic 699 In First Test

New Delhi: Just days after making history with a massive 699-run total in the first Test against Zimbabwe, Afghanistan’s batsmen were humbled by Zimbabwe’s bowlers on Thursday. Desperate to reach even 200 runs in the first innings of the second Test, Afghanistan was bowled out for a mere 157 runs on the opening day. The dramatic turnaround came after their record-breaking performance on December 30.

The second test match between hosts Zimbabwe and Afghanistan is being played in Bulawayo. The first day of the match on Thursday was largely affected by rain. Not a single over was played in the first session of the match and a lunch break had to be taken. If Indra Dev rained in the first session, then Zimbabwe’s bowlers wreaked havoc in the second and third sessions. The host team, thanks to its excellent bowling, bowled out Afghanistan for 157 runs in 44.3 overs.

Afghanistan’s batsmen scored two double centuries and a century in the first Test match, but the top scorer in the second Test was Rashid Khan who scored 25 runs. Rahmat Shah scored 19, Afsar Zazai scored 16 and captain Hashmatullah Shahidi scored 13 runs. Let us tell you that in the first Test, Hashmatullah Shahidi scored 246, Rahmat Shah scored 234 and Afsar Zazai scored 113 runs.

Afghanistan had lost 6 wickets for 82 runs at one stage. Due to this, there was a danger of them getting bowled out for less than 100 runs. Rashid Khan (25) who came at number 8 and Farid Ahmed (17) at number 11 took the team past 150 runs. In the second test match, the bowlers who gave Afghanistan a tough time were Sikandar Raza, Newman Nyamuri and Blessing Mujarbani. Sikandar Raza and Newman Nyamuri took 3-3 wickets. Mujarbani took 2 wickets.
