20 Maoists, One Jawan Killed in Fierce Encounter in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur
Kothagudem/Hyderabad, March 20 (Maxim News): A major encounter between security forces and Maoists on the border of Bijapur and Dantewada districts in Chhattisgarh resulted in the deaths of nearly 20 Maoists and one jawan of the Bijapur District Reserve Guard (DRG).
Intense Gun Battle in Maoist Stronghold
A joint team of security personnel launched an anti-Maoist operation under the Gangalur police station area early Thursday morning. A prolonged exchange of fire ensued between Maoists and security forces, lasting several hours, said Bijapur Superintendent of Police Jitendra Kumar Yadav.
After the encounter ended, security personnel recovered 20 Maoist bodies and a large cache of automatic weapons and ammunition from the site. A search operation is still underway in the area.
IED Blast in Narayanpur
In another incident in Narayanpur district, a joint team of DRG and STF launched a search operation in the Abujhmad area on Wednesday, following intelligence reports about the presence of top Maoist leaders.
During the early hours, Maoists triggered an IED blast. While no serious injuries were reported, a jawan and an officer suffered eye irritation due to dust and debris. They were immediately evacuated for treatment and are now in stable condition, police confirmed.
The security forces continue their anti-Maoist operations in the region. (Maxim News)
