288 S-400 Missiles From Russia: Defence Panel Gives Green Signal
Delhi/Hyderabad, Feb 13 (Maxim News): Another major step towards strengthening India’s defence sector has been taken. The Defence Acquisition Council (DAC), headed by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, has given the green signal for the purchase of 288 S-400 missiles from Russia for an amount of about Rs 10,000 crore. The purchases, which will be made under the Fast Track Method (FTP), include 120 short-range missiles and 168 long-range missiles. Two more S-400 systems, which have already been contracted, are expected to be delivered to India in June and November this year.
Defence sources said the main purpose of the latest purchases is to replenish the stock of missiles used during ‘Operation Sindoor’ and to enhance air defence capabilities. Similarly, it has been stated that the S-400 system will further strengthen India’s air defence system along the China and Pakistan borders and will effectively intercept air threats within a range of 400 km.
During the tensions with Pakistan last year, during Operation Sindoor, the S-400 system sent chills down the enemy’s spine. It shot down a Pakistani fighter jet at a distance of 314 km. With the deployment of this system in the Adampur and Bhuj sectors, Pakistan was forced to move its fighter jets to the Afghan and Iranian borders under conditions of no other choice. The 400 km, 200 km, 150 km and 40 km range missiles to be purchased now can effectively repel enemy aircraft and drone attacks. (Maxim News)
