30 People Fell Ill After Eating Mandi in Hyderabad, GHMC Takes Action

Hyderabad: At least 30 people, including 12 members of the same family, fell ill allegedly due to food poisoning after consuming a meal at a mandi restaurant in Hyderabad’s Dabeerpura. The condition of one is being reported to be serious. According to officials from the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), the incident took place on Thursday.

The civic body has also collected food samples from there and sent them to the lab for
examination. The results should be available in the next 15 days, Sudarshan Reddy, designated food safety officer for south zone said.

Based on the results, authorities will book a case and/or levy a fine against the eatery. Shiraaz Ahmed, food safety officer, Charminar circle said that based on the complaints reported in My GHMC app and also local media, they swung into action.

Complaints said that after having food from MS Mandi on Thursday, they had vomiting and
motions on Friday. On Saturday, GHMC officials inspected their kitchen, store and collected
suspected samples and asked them to close the hotel.

Ahmed said that nearly 19 persons who had food infection were admitted in Koranti hospital.
Notices will be issued to the hotel management on Monday.

Meanwhile, another Mandi restaurant located in Guddimalkapur area of Hyderabad has also
come under the scanner of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation following a complaint of an insect found in food here. It is reported that Mandi served by a restaurant was contaminated. A video of the incident is also making rounds on social media.

After a user tagged GHMC, complaining about the insect in Mandi at the restaurant in
Hyderabad, GHMC’s Food Safety Officer inspected the premises and lifted samples. Later, an
inspection report was submitted for further action.
