Elections For 8 Wards Of Secunderabad Cantonment Board On April 30

Hyderabad, Feb 18 (Maxim News): Obstacles to Secunderabad Cantonment Board elections have been removed. The Joint Secretary of Defence Rakesh Mittal has released the notification for Secunderabad Cantonment Board Elections which will be held on April 30 for a total 8 wards

It may be recalled that the elections were held in 2015 for the Secunderabad Cantonment Governing Council under the Central Defence department.  the 8 members elected from 8 wards elect one of them as the Vice President of the Governing Council of the Board.  The five-year tenure ended in February 2020.  However, the Defence department did not hold elections.  It has issued an order to continue the same governing council for six months.  Later, orders were issued extending the tenure of the Governing Council for another six months.  In this way, the old governing body continued till February 2021.

The Defence department remained silent for almost 9 months without holding the cantonment elections, dashing everyone’s hopes.  A Civil nominated member has been appointed for  Secunderabad Cantonment along with other cantonments in November 2021.  In February 2022, the tenure of the nominated member was once again extended.  it said that the Cantonment Act Amendment Bill is pending in Parliament and elections will be held after the Bill is approved.  Again in august 2022, the tenure of the nominated member was extended.

it is now clear that all the hurdles have been cleared and preparations are being made for Secunderabad Cantonment Board Elections.  According to the cantonment Act, till now the elections of the governing council of the board were conducted without political parties and without party symbols.  Although the leaders with the support of the respective political parties are contesting the board elections, they are not allotting the recognized symbols (Maxim News)
