India’s New Constitution Copy Released: Words Socialist And Secular Are Missing

Delhi/Hyderabad, Sept  20 (Maxim News): Another controversy is raging on the platform of the new Parliament. The government distributed copies of the constitution to MPs the day after the special sessions of parliament were officially moved to the new building.  

However, the absence of the words socialist and secular in these copies has sparked a fierce controversy. The Opposition described it as an attack on the Constitution. However, Union Law Minister Arjun Meghwal responded to these criticisms. It is explained that these copies contain the original copies of the Constitution entry. He reminded that when the Constitution came into force, the words socialist and secular were not included in it, and these words were included in the 42nd Amendment of the Constitution in 1976. 

On the other hand, all the details in the preamble of the constitution in Hindi language are correct.  But was the change between the English version and the Hindi version accidental? or was it done on purpose? Questions are coming.  

Meanwhile, congress leader Adhir Ranjan Choudhary expressed anger that the new copy of the constitution given to the MPs did not contain the words ‘socialist and secular’ in the preamble.  He said that this shows what the intention of the ruling BJP is. “We know that these words were amended in 1976, but if someone gives the constitution today, it is a matter of concern if those words are not there.  their intention is questionable.  It was smart. This is a serious matter. We will raise this matter in the Parliament said Adhir Ranjan Chaudhary. 

On the inauguration day of the new Parliament building, copies of the Constitution were distributed in a bag as a gift to the MPs.  The Preamble to the Constitution first described India as a ‘Sovereign and Democratic Republic‘. However, many changes were made through the 42nd Amendment during the Emergency imposed by the Congress government led by Indira Gandhi. It included the words ‘socialist’ and ‘secular’ between the words ‘sovereign’ and ‘democratic’ it is said to be proof of ethnic unity and integrity. However, in 1994, the Supreme Court made it clear that ‘secularism’ is a part of the basic structural theory and certain basic features cannot be erased. 

Meanwhile, the opposition leaders demanded that the two words were missing in the new constitution and that the printing of those copies should be stopped. He clarified that any changes in the constitution would be treated as tampering.  (Maxim News)
