Telangana Summer Holidays: Will Hyderabad Schools Close in March?

Telangana Summer Holidays | Hyderabad, Oct 29: Telangana schools may face discussions over early summer holidays as concerns grow about rising temperatures and water shortages ahead of summer 2027. However, the state government has not announced any decision to close schools from March.

The issue has gained attention amid concerns about El Niño, declining water availability and the possibility of a prolonged summer water crisis. Educationist Vaasireddy Amarnath, founder of Slate The School, has suggested that running schools in Hyderabad could become difficult after March if water and electricity shortages worsen.

His remarks have triggered speculation about whether the government might advance the summer vacation schedule. However, early holidays remain a possibility raised by the educationist, not an official government decision.

According to Telangana’s published academic calendar for 2026–27, the last working day for schools is April 23, 2027.

Summer vacation is scheduled to begin on April 24 and continue until June 13, 2027. Schools are expected to reopen for the next academic year according to the announced schedule.

Any decision to advance the holidays would require an official announcement from the School Education Department. Until then, students and parents should follow the existing academic calendar.

Meanwhile, concerns over water availability have intensified across Telangana. Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has warned that the state could face a prolonged drinking water crisis because of El Niño and limited water reserves. The government has urged people to conserve water and electricity.

The situation could create challenges for schools if drinking water supplies become unreliable. Schools require adequate water for students, sanitation and daily operations. Some institutions may also face difficulties if electricity supply becomes strained during periods of high demand.

Online classes

Online classes have also emerged as a possible alternative if conditions deteriorate. However, the Telangana government has not issued any statewide order requiring schools to conduct online classes during March or April 2027.

Basara’s Rajiv Gandhi University of Knowledge Technologies has separately faced water supply difficulties. Reports indicate that disruptions to the campus pumping system led the university to arrange online classes temporarily. The campus situation does not, however, establish that all schools across Telangana will shift to online learning.

Parents and students should therefore avoid relying on unconfirmed claims about March holidays. They should continue following their examination schedules and school instructions.

The government may review school operations if weather conditions or water shortages require intervention. For now, neither early summer holidays from March nor compulsory online classes have been officially announced for Telangana schools.
