Diwali Holidays 2023: Check Out State-Wise List

India is starting to feel the thrill and excitement of the Festival of Lights as Diwali is just around the corner.

For students, Diwali is yet another occasion to celebrate a well-deserved getaway from the tight schedules of school and college. Diwali holidays, however, can differ significantly in duration and date between the northern and southern regions, typically due to local celebrations, customs, and traditions.

Beginning this week, schools across a number of states will be closed for Diwali and subsequent holidays such as Chhath. Several state governments have set aside dates for holidays in celebration of Diwali, which falls on November 12. It is recommended that parents and students check with the administration of their individual schools and colleges to clarify the exact number of holidays that have been announced by their individual institutions.

Diwali Holidays 2023: Check Out State-Wise List

Several states, including Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, and Bihar, have declared three to four days off in celebration of the festival of lights.

Now let’s look at the list of states that have declared holidays for Diwali:

Tamil Nadu

On November 13, in observance of Diwali, all Tamil Nadu schools, colleges, and other educational establishments will be closed. As Diwali falls on a Sunday this year, the decision was made with the convenience of government employees and students in mind. As a countermeasure to the declared vacation, the Tamil Nadu government has further declared that November 18 will be a working day.

BIHAR

Over the course of the two holidays, Chhath and Diwali, Bihar’s government schools will be closed from November 11 to November 21. District Project Officers (DPO) and District Education Officers (DEO) in Bihar have received an order from State Project Director B Karthikeya Dhanaji instructing them to adhere to the approved holiday schedule.

Telangana And Andhra Pradesh

The governments of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh have declared November 13 as a state holiday, which will be observed by educational institutions throughout the two states in honor of Diwali. This year, Diwali occurs on a Sunday, so students may celebrate the festival of lights across three days, including the weekends of November 11 and 12.

Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra

The Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Zilla Parishad’s Education Department has planned a 19-day Diwali holiday from November 9 and November 27. Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University (BAMU) has announced vacations for institutions under its purview from November 6 to November 27, after which classes will resume. These colleges are spread across four districts.
