Indian Students Flock To US For Higher Education Set New Records

Delhi/Hyderabad, Nov 13 (Maxim News)  A record number of Indian students are choosing the United States for their higher education, according to the latest Open Doors Report released by the Institute of International Education (IIE).

The report shows that the number of Indian students in the US increased by 35% in the 2022-23 academic year, reaching an all-time high of 268,923. This makes India the largest source of international students in the US, surpassing China for the first time since 2009-10.

The surge in Indian students coming to the US is being driven by several factors, including the high quality of US education, the strong job market for graduates, and the opportunity to gain valuable work experience through Optional Practical Training (OPT).

The Open Doors Report also shows that the number of Indian graduate students in the US increased by 63% in the 2022-23 academic year, while the number of undergraduate students increased by 16%. This suggests that Indian students increasingly view the US as a destination for all higher education levels.

The US Embassy and Consulates in India issued a record number of student visas in the 2023-24 academic year, demonstrating the continued commitment of the US government to welcoming Indian students.

US Ambassador to India Eric Garcetti welcomed the news of the record number of Indian students in the US, saying that it is a testament to the strong relationship between the two countries. He also encouraged Indian students to consider studying in the US, saying it is an investment in their future.
