Time To End Decades Of Neglect And Communal Politics In Old City: Sameer Waliullah

Hyderabad, May 8: Hyderabad DCC President Mohammed Sameer Waliullah from Hyderabad Lok Sabha constituency said that the residents of Old City have long been ignored, neglected, and exploited for political gain. He said that the ongoing Lok Sabha elections offer a critical opportunity for these communities to break free from the cycle of communalism and embrace genuine development.

Waliullah Sameer, along with Congress senior leaders including Khairtabad DCC President Rohin Reddy, TPCC Mahila Congres president Sunitha Rao, Malakpet Incharge Shaik Akbar, and others, conducted roadshows in Gosha Mahal and Malakpet constituencies on Wednesday.

Speaking to media persons, he called for a radical shift in how politics is conducted in Hyderabad.

Waliullah Sameer accused the MIM and BJP of manipulating the innocent and poor residents of Hyderabad’s Old City, leading them to prioritize a communal agenda over their development and prosperity. He noted that the MIM appears to be the only party in India that contests and wins elections without presenting a manifesto. At the same time, the BJP’s sole message to Hyderabad’s voters is the promise to defeat MIM.

“MIM leaders mesmerize impoverished Muslims with stories of their bravery and leadership. They talk about international, national, and state politics, yet they never mention what they have done to develop the Old City, nor do they share any plans for progress if elected. They craft a narrative where the people see their success in MIM’s success. Meanwhile, the BJP merely vows to ‘liberate’ the Old City from MIM, offering nothing more,” Sameer said.

“As a result, residents in the Old City often vote with no real expectations for tangible change or development. This pattern has persisted for decades, with no significant efforts to address it,” he added.

Waliullah Sameer vowed to shift the focus from communal politics to development, declaring that people would start voting based on progress rather than religious or communal grounds. “I’ve been actively involved in Hyderabad’s Old City since 2018, initially as the Chairman of the Hyderabad Congress Minorities Department and later as the President of the Hyderabad District Congress Committee (DCC). Throughout this time, I’ve consistently highlighted issues related to the lack of civic amenities, rising unemployment, illiteracy, and increasing crime rates,” Sameer explained.

“I’ve taken the lead in drawing attention to critical topics and holding both MIM and BJP accountable for ignoring them. By doing so, I’m encouraging a shift in mindset. I believe the people of Hyderabad are ready for a new approach that prioritizes development and practical solutions over divisive rhetoric,” he said.

Sameer expressed confidence that voters in Hyderabad would choose development over communalism in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. “I’ve started the change process, and I believe the people are ready to vote for progress and a better future. I’m certain that this time, they will support the Congress party, which has a clear vision for development,” he concluded.

Waliullah Sameer stated that Hyderabad’s Old City residents should recognize that they are the most neglected community in Telangana. “While the Old City is home to almost all of Hyderabad’s major tourist attractions, including Charminar, Mecca Masjid, Chowmohalla Palace, Seven Tombs, Salarjung Museum, and Laad Bazar, it lacks basic government infrastructure,” he remarked.

He pointed out that the Old City doesn’t host government department headquarters, forcing residents to travel to other parts of Hyderabad to access essential services. “Except for the Osmania General Hospital, which was established 114 years ago, there isn’t a single major public hospital serving the people of the Old City. Even OGH suffers from underfunding and lacks basic amenities,” Sameer explained.

Similarly, Sameer highlighted that the only significant institution in the education sector is the Government City College, established in 1921. “Despite numerous institutions of international repute being set up in other parts of Hyderabad and Telangana, no comparable educational facilities have been established in the Old City,” he noted.

Waliullah Sameer urged the residents of the Old City to push for change, emphasizing that decades of neglect have left the area without the basic infrastructure and opportunities available in other parts of Hyderabad. He called for a new approach that prioritizes development and investment in the Old City to bring it up to par with the rest of the state.

The Congress candidate stated that Hyderabad’s Old City needs an overhaul, with a vision to transform it into a hub with multiple hospitals, educational institutions, government and corporate offices, and other establishments. He warned that conditions in the Old City would remain unchanged if people continued to vote for the MIM and BJP, which have focused on communal politics without addressing fundamental development needs.

“If the residents of the Old City truly want to see a transformation, they should vote for Congress,” he said. “Only the Congress party has a concrete plan and the commitment to bring real change to this area. Three generations have been lost to the lure of communal politics. This is the time to break free from that cycle and choose development over division,” he added.

Waliullah Sameer said his campaign has received overwhelming support from the public. “The people are calling for change. The youth want job opportunities and a higher standard of living. They also expect their representative to be accessible and accountable. “In this election, people of all backgrounds, regardless of religion or caste, will vote for the Congress party because they know it’s the only way to achieve the change they seek,” he claimed. (Maxim News)
