Prabhakar Rao Denies Involvement in Phone Tapping Case: Writes to Police

Prabhakar Rao | Hyderabad, July 11: In a recent development, a letter written by former SIB chief Prabhakar Rao, a central figure in the ongoing phone-tapping controversy, has surfaced. Addressed to the Jubilee Hills police on June 23rd, Rao maintains his innocence in the case.

The letter details Rao’s unexpected stay in the United States of America due to health concerns. Originally scheduled to return to India on June 26th, he was forced to remain for treatment of cancer and heart-related ailments. American doctors reportedly advised his continued stay.

Rao vehemently denies involvement in the phone tapping, calling the accusations against him “false” and “leaked” to the media. He expresses distress at the mental strain this situation has caused him and his family.

Asserting his clean record as a police officer, Rao welcomes a thorough investigation. He offers full cooperation via teleconference or mail due to his health limitations.

The letter emphasizes Rao’s willingness to face the inquiry and answer all questions upon full recovery.
He concludes by stating his commitment to sharing any relevant information with the investigating officer.

Telangana High Court

Meanwhile, Telangana High Court on Wednesday directed the print and electronic media not to mention the names and/or mobile phone numbers of the judges in their reports connected to ‘telephone tapping case’.

A bench of Chief Justice Alok Aradhe and Justice Anil Kumar Jukanti passed this interim direction while hearing the suo moto taken-up writ petition on telephone tapping case. The bench said that media persons should exercise restraint while reporting developments related to the case.

The bench made it clear that the names of the HC judges or any of their family members and contact numbers should not be mentioned while reporting about the case. The bench said that it was noted that some media organisations and a newspaper mentioned the name of the HC judge and his mobile phone number which was allegedly tapped by a group of police officers accused of eavesdropping.
