Dhaka/Hyderabad, Aug 6 (Maxim News): Bangladesh President Mohammed Shahabuddin dissolved the parliament on Tuesday, a day after Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina resigned and fled the country following massive protests against her government.

Decision Following High-Level Discussions
“The decision to dissolve the parliament was taken following the president’s discussions with the chiefs of the three armed forces, leaders of various political parties, representatives of civil society, and leaders of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement,” reported the Daily Star newspaper, citing a statement issued by his office.

Release of Political Figures and Detainees
The statement also mentioned that BNP chairperson and former premier Khaleda Zia was freed. Furthermore, the process to release those arrested between July 1 and August has commenced, with many already being released.
