Heavy Flood Flow to Nagarjuna Sagar Continues
Nalgonda/Hyderabad, Aug 7 (Maxim News): The Nagarjuna Sagar Project continues to experience heavy floods as a substantial amount of water flows in from the Srisailam Project. Consequently, the water level at Nagarjuna Sagar has risen, leading to the raising of 20 gates by ten feet to release water downstream.

Current Water Levels and Capacities
The current inflow and outflow at Nagarjuna Sagar are 3,23,965 cusecs. The full water level of the reservoir is 590 feet, while the current level stands at 584.50 feet. The reservoir’s full water storage capacity is 312 TMCs (thousand million cubic feet), and the current storage is 295.99 TMCs.

Flood Management Measures
To manage the increased water levels, 20 gates of the Nagarjuna Sagar project are being raised, allowing water to flow downstream. Simultaneously, the Srisailam reservoir is also dealing with heavy inflows, necessitating the raising of 10 gates by 12 feet to release water. The inflows and outflows at Srisailam are 2,74,443 cusecs and 3,72,053 cusecs, respectively. The reservoir’s full water level is 885 feet, currently at 883.20 feet, with a full storage capacity of 215.8070 TMCs and a current capacity of 205.6627 TMCs.

Power Generation Updates
Power generation is ongoing at the right and left hydropower stations of Srisailam, with the full water level for power generation at 175 feet and a capacity of 45.77 TMCs. The current water level for power generation is 165.02 feet, holding 31.67 TMCs. Four units are currently operational for power generation.

Pulichintala Project Status
The Pulichintala project in Suryapet district is also managing significant inflows of 3,05,200 cusecs, with an outflow of 20,000 cusecs. The flood flow from upstream of Pulichintala is 3.27 lakh cusecs, with 10,000 cusecs diverted for power generation. The full storage capacity of Pulichintala is 45.77 TMCs, and the current storage is 26.79 TMCs.

Precautionary Measures
As the gates of Nagarjuna Sagar are fully lifted, the flood flow continues to increase. Officials are preparing to raise additional gates as needed, depending on the incoming floodwaters. Residents in the lower areas of Pulichintala are advised to remain alert and take necessary precautions. (Maxim News)
