Panchayat Elections In Telangana In January?

Hyderabad, Nov 19 (Maxim News): Panchayat elections, which the entire Telangana is waiting for, are likely to be held in January.

Information is being received that the schedule will be released in the last week of December and the notification will be given on January 7. It is reported that the Election Commission is making arrangements to conduct the panchayat elections in three phases this time. Polling is likely to be held from January 21 to 30 in three phases. It is informed that after the counting, the election of the sarpanch will take place. In this background, it is known that an exercise is going on for the finalization of reservations for panchayats and ward members.

A candidate contesting for Sarpanch/ward member is ineligible if he has more than two children. No third child after June 1, 1995. If two or three are born in a litter they can compete. The minimum age for contesting is 21 years.

The contesting candidate must be registered as a voter in the Gram Panchayat.  Proponents of Ward Member/Sarpanch should be voters of the same ward/village. 

Employees of local organizations and Anganwadi workers should not contest. Those who belong to organizations established under Section 15 of Debt are ineligible for competition. 

Managing agents, managers, and secretaries of institutions/companies with more than 25 percent investment by the government shall not contest.  Government servants are eligible if they resign and give confirmation before consideration of nominations.  (Maxim News)
