India’s Republic Day Parade in 2025 at Kartavya Path, Delhi, was a spectacular display of the nation’s military might, cultural heritage, and unity. The event was graced by Indonesian President Joko Widodo, the chief guest, alongside Indian President Droupadi Murmu. The parade featured vibrant tableaux, impressive military displays, and a thrilling fly-past that captured the essence of India’s progress and power.

Opening Ceremonies and Tribute to Heroes

The parade began with the arrival of President Murmu and President Widodo in a traditional ‘buggy’, escorted by the President’s Bodyguard. Prime Minister Narendra Modi led the nation in paying tribute to fallen soldiers at the National War Memorial. The ceremony continued with the unfurling of the National Flag, the National Anthem, and a 21-gun salute using indigenous 105-mm Light Field Guns.

Key Highlights of the Parade

The parade featured 31 tableaux from states and ministries, showcasing India’s diversity and achievements. Notably, this year marked the first Tri-services Tableau, highlighting a ‘Joint Operations Room’ to promote cooperation among India’s armed forces. Over 5,000 artists performed in an 11-minute cultural display titled ‘Jayati Jaya Mamaḧ Bharatam’, covering the entire Kartavya Path.

Women’s participation was prominent with a 148-member all-women CRPF contingent, led by Assistant Commandant Aishwarya Joy M. Additionally, the Delhi Police Band featured an all-women band for the second time, and female veterans such as Lieutenant Colonel Ravinderjeet Randhawa and Flight Lieutenant Ruchi Saha represented women’s vital role in the armed forces.

The Indonesian contingent, with 152 soldiers and a 190-member military band, marched in a gesture of international friendship.

Military Displays and Missiles

The military segment included a showcase of advanced defense systems, such as the BrahMos Missile, T-90 Tank (Bhishma), and Pinaka Multi-launcher Rocket System. These displays highlighted India’s cutting-edge military capabilities and readiness.

Motorcycle Display and Fly-Past

The Corps of Signals Motorcycle Rider Display Team, also known as ‘The Dare Devils’, performed thrilling stunts, including the Human Pyramid and Bullet Salute. The highlight of the parade was the fly-past, featuring 40 aircraft, including Rafale, Su-30, and Jaguar jets, along with Apache and Mi-17 helicopters. The fly-past concluded with the awe-inspiring Vertical Charlie maneuver by a Rafale fighter aircraft.
