IIIT Hyderabad’s Smart City Living Lab Plays Pivotal Role In TSDSI’s White Paper Released On Smart City Solutions

Hyderabad: IIIT Hyderabad’s Smart City Living Lab Plays Pivotal Role in Telecom Standards Development Society of India’s (TDSI), White Paper Released on Smart City Solutions.

TSDSI (Telecom Standards Development Society of India), India’s Telecom SDO and a Type 1 partner of the global oneM2M Partnership Project conducted the oneM2M Stakeholders Day at the Research & Innovation Park, IIT Delhi, New Delhi. The white paper on Innovations For Sustainable Urban Living: Insights into Smart City Solutions was officially launched during the event, marking a significant milestone in contributions to Smart Cities.

Ms Anuradha Vattem, the lead author and Chief Technology Architect at Smart City Living Lab, who was crucial in making this paper a reality, stated that it wouldn’t have come together without the support of TSDSI and the numerous stakeholders from academia and industry who shared their invaluable perspectives.

The white paper provides an overview of various components for implementing a smart city solution, making it reliable, usable and scalable based on some case studies. The key findings include:

✔ Smart City-Specific Solutions
✔ Standardization and Regulatory Frameworks
✔ Existing Sandbox Environments & Living Labs
✔ Challenges, Gaps & Recommendations to Way Forward

The Smart City Living Lab at IIIT Hyderabad has been featured as one of the key case studies that showcased the wider deployment of smart city solutions as per the standard stack, including oneM2M and Indian Urban Data Exchange interface (IUDX). Apart from that, various use cases deployed in various parts of the country have been explained in brief.

“The reviewers expressed their satisfaction and noted that the paper offers a comprehensive perspective, supported by relevant examples, on the development of smart city solutions,” said Anuradha Vattem.

The gathering brought together members from global oneM2M partner SDOs, DOT, ITU, TSDSI, TEC, NUDM, industry leaders and other relevant stakeholders, fostering collaboration and innovation in the IoT and smart city domains.

As a part of the event, Anuradha Vattem participated in a panel discussion – Indian Perspective: IoT/M2M Deployment scenarios & possibilities in the context of oneM2M and presented on the various activities taken up by IIIT-H as a part of Academia engagement with oneM2M.

In addition to this event, the Smart City Living Lab set up a stall at the exhibition and It showcased some of the live demos like 1) City IoT operating Platform (ctOP) and 2) Digital Twin for Water Networks (DTWN).

The City IoT Operating Platform (ctOP) is a lightweight platform built based on oneM2M standards designed to enhance interoperability and simplify multiple vendor integrations for smart city deployments, aiming to streamline the IoT ecosystem for smarter, more efficient cities.

Digital Twin Demo showcased a Digital Twin implementation for Water Networks marking a significant advancement in smart city infrastructure management.

Both demos were well-received and appreciated by the visitors. Mr. R. Hechwartner, oneM2M TP Chair (Deutsche Telekom), highlighted that the city IoT operating platform (ctOP) presents an innovative approach for smart cities, offering standard, reliable and scalable solutions.

“I’m grateful for the opportunity this event provided,” said Ms. Ushasri Mogadali, one of the engineers present from Smart City Living Lab. “It’s been an excellent platform for sharing oneM2M’s use cases, and I’m happy to see the positive response from visitors toward the products we’ve worked on.”
