New Delhi Railway Station Stampede News Live Updates: With at least 18 people killed in a stampede at the New Delhi Railway Station on Saturday evening, the high-level committee began their probe into the incident on Sunday. The team has secured all CCTV footage of the station, and called in eye-witnesses, Narsingh Deo, one of the members told. The Railway Ministry has announced Rs 10 lakh compensation for the families of the deceased. The ministry has also declared that the victims with grievous injuries will receive Rs 2.5 lakh whereas those with minor bruises will get Rs 1 lakh.

What happened on stampede night

According to the fire officials, four fire tenders were pressed to service on Saturday after the department received distress calls about a stampede on platforms 14 and 15 around 9.55 pm. The injured were rushed to Lok Nayak Hospital. The Railways issued an official statement: “An unprecedented rush situation developed … near platforms 13 and 14. Due to the sudden surge in passengers, some individuals fainted, which led to rumors of a stampede-like situation, causing panic among travelers. The situation was later brought under control by easing the congestion.”

What could have led to the Stampede

Elaborating on the matter, DCP, Railways, and KPS Malhotra said that a lot of people had gathered with the Prayagraj Express on platform number 14. Passengers of Swatantrata Senani Express and Bhubaneshwar Rajdhani were also present at platforms 12, 13, and 14 as the trains were delayed, he said, adding, “As per our information, 1,500 general tickets were sold (every hour), which is why the crowd became uncontrollable.”
