Hyderabad: Sarvejana Foundation Chief Executive Officer Dr. B. Janardhan Reddy, emphasized the critical need for enhanced road safety awareness among students during his address at the Engineering Staff College of India in Gachibowli.

Speaking as the Chief Guest at the conclusion of a comprehensive training program on Road Traffic Regulations sponsored by the Ministry of Transport and Highways, Government of India, Dr. Janardhan Reddy highlighted the imperative for educating students across the country on preventing road accidents.

The training program, which drew senior officials from road transport departments, motor vehicle inspectors, and traffic police officers from several states including Gujarat, Karnataka, Kerala, Maharashtra, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Odisha, and Rajasthan, concluded on Friday with a strong call to action on road safety.

Dr. Janardhan Reddy underscored that key factors contributing to road accidents include negligence such as not wearing helmets or seat belts, over-speeding, using mobile phones while driving, disregarding traffic signals, driving under the influence, and reckless driving. He emphasized that India witnesses approximately 140,000 fatalities annually due to road accidents, primarily caused by human negligence.

With India boasting the world’s second-largest road network spanning 6.7 million kilometers and a vast fleet of vehicles including 260 million two-wheelers and 50 million four-wheelers, Dr. Janardhan Reddy stressed the urgent need for widespread traffic awareness among drivers.

In a bid to mitigate these alarming statistics, the Sarvejana Foundation, founded under the leadership of renowned orthopedic surgeon Dr. A. Gurava Reddy, has launched the “Stop Road Accidents” mobile app on the Google Play Store. The app features interactive quizzes on road safety, offering participants a chance to win a monthly cash prize of Rs. 100,000 for correct answers.

Dr. G. Rameshwar Rao, Director of the Engineering Staff College of India, announced plans for a forthcoming awareness program targeting school and college students on April 19, emphasizing early education on traffic rules to cultivate lifelong safety habits.

The event witnessed attendance from key dignitaries including Dr. B. Venkat Reddy, Head of the Civil and Transportation Engineering Department; Ministry of Transport representative Aravendra Kumar Bhaskar; C. H. Tilak; state transport department officials, and college faculty members.
