Commemoration Ceremony Of 100th Pre-Flying Training Course Held At Air Force Academy Hyderabad

The Pre-Flying Training Course (PFTC) is a foundational training programme of the Indian Air Force (IAF), conducted at the Air Force Academy (AFA), Hyderabad. PFTC was established at Air Force Administrative College (AFAC), Coimbatore on 16 August 1969 and graduated its first course in June 1975. The unit later moved to Air Force Station Begumpet in November 1986 and subsequently to AFA in September 2001.

The 100th PFTC marks a significant milestone marking 50 Glorious years of shaping IAF’s future Aviators since the first batch passed out. The landmark occasion was commemorated with a ceremony held on 29 May 25 at AFA. The 100th Pre-Flying Training Course (PFTC) marked 50 Glorious years of shaping IAF’s future Aviators.

PFTC is the ab-initio training faculty for graduates intending to join the Flying branch through various induction pathways like CDS, AFCAT, NCC and Service Entry. Almost 40% of all the pilots follow this pathway. PFTC has the exclusive privilege to have trained all the women Air Force pilots till date.

The course includes rigorous physical training, drill, basic aviation subjects, military leadership and service knowledge. Trainees also undertake air experience sorties for orientation towards flying. The Flight Cadets are exposed to various aspects of military life, teamwork, and core values essential for their future roles as aviators. The curriculum ensures holistic development and readiness for the demanding next phase of training.

The commemoration ceremony was presided over by Air Marshal Tejbir Singh, Senior Air Staff Officer (SASO), HQ Training Command, IAF. In his address, the Air Marshal emphasised on need to keep pace with the technology and spoke about Intelligence, Emotional, Social and Adversity Quotient being the Key for personal and professional development.

The 100th PFTC represents not just a numerical achievement but a legacy of disciplined and dedicated training that has shaped generations of military aviators. The Air Marshal also highlighted the significance of this milestone as a symbol of the IAF’s unwavering commitment to building future air warriors through structured, value-based and rigorous training programmes.

As the trainees of the 100th batch complete this vital phase of training, they carry forward the legacy of courage, service and professional excellence. The Indian Air Force continues to nurture and inspire future air warriors through this robust and time-tested training framework.
