Sigachi Tragedy: Victims’ Families Confront Minister Damodar Rajanarsimha During Site Visit
Hyderabad, July 2 (Maxim News): Tensions escalated at the Sigachi Industries accident site today as Health Minister Damodar Rajanarsimha, along with TS Congress in-charge Meenakshi Natarajan, TPCC President Mahesh Kumar Goud, and MLA Jagga Reddy, visited the Pashamylaram factory in Sangareddy district. The leaders were met with emotional protests and frustration from the families of the victims.
Relatives of those missing or deceased in the devastating industrial explosion confronted the minister, questioning the delay in identification and information sharing. “Three days have passed, and we still don’t know where our loved ones are,” one grieving family member cried out during the heated exchange.
Minister Assures Action, Updates Casualty Figures
Minister Damodar Rajanarsimha attempted to reassure the families, stating that the government is treating the tragedy with utmost seriousness. “So far, we have recovered 36 bodies, and 13 people are still missing,” he told reporters after the interaction. “The bodies of 11 individuals have been handed over, and the remaining will be given to families once the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSI) reports are completed,” he added.
The Minister urged patience, stating that removal of remaining debris could help in locating the rest of the missing workers. He confirmed that a case has already been registered against Sigachi Industries, and the company’s management is cooperating with the investigation.
Families Demand Transparency, Swift Relief
Family members, many of whom had gathered outside the accident site for days, demanded greater transparency, faster DNA identification, and financial support. Their protest highlighted the growing anger and helplessness among those still searching for answers about their loved ones.
Government Criticizes Politicization of Tragedy
Responding to criticism from opposition parties, Minister Damodar condemned attempts to politicize the tragedy, asserting that this was a humanitarian issue, not a political battleground. “Now is the time to stand with the affected families, not point fingers,” he said.
The Sigachi reactor blast—one of Telangana’s worst industrial accidents—has so far claimed over 40 lives, with many others critically injured. Rescue and relief efforts are ongoing, and officials fear the death toll may rise further as the search continues under the collapsed structure.
