Raja Singh, who was elected on a BJP ticket in the 2023 Telangana Assembly elections, recently submitted his resignation from the party’s primary membership. The BJP national leadership officially accepted his resignation, confirming his departure from the party.

According to the provisions under the Tenth Schedule of the Indian Constitution—commonly referred to as the anti-defection law—an elected representative automatically loses his legislative seat if he voluntarily gives up membership of the party on whose ticket he was elected.

Party sources have indicated that Raja Singh’s resignation effectively nullifies his position as an MLA. The Telangana Legislative Assembly is expected to take the necessary steps to formally cancel his membership in the coming days.

This development comes close on the heels of the Jubilee Hills Assembly seat falling vacant after the death of MLA Maganti Gopinath. With the possibility of two Assembly seats—Goshamahal and Jubilee Hills—becoming vacant, political circles are abuzz with speculation about twin by-elections in Hyderabad.
