Asaduddin Owaisi Urges GHMC To Resume Mechanical Road Sweeping In Hyderabad

Hyderabad, July 24, 2025 (Maxim News): All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) President and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi has strongly urged the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) to immediately restart mechanical road sweeping, which has been halted since June 30.

In a letter addressed to Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, Owaisi highlighted the public inconvenience caused by the sudden stoppage of mechanical sweeping services in Hyderabad. He noted that all private agencies that had been contracted to provide sweeping machines have discontinued their services, leaving several key roads across the city in poor sanitary condition.

Health and Cleanliness at Risk

Owaisi emphasized that the lack of proper road sweeping is already affecting hygiene and environmental standards, especially during the ongoing monsoon season. Dust, debris, and waste accumulation on major roads not only hamper daily commuting but also pose health risks to the public.

He urged the government to resolve contractual or operational issues with the agencies at the earliest and resume the service without delay. “Maintaining clean and dust-free roads is essential for public health and urban sanitation,” the Hyderabad MP stated.

Background on the Issue

Mechanical sweeping, introduced by GHMC to maintain cleaner and more efficient roads across Hyderabad, had been implemented in collaboration with private agencies. These agencies operated a fleet of mechanized sweeping vehicles across various circles of the city.

However, the sweeping activity came to a sudden halt on June 30, reportedly due to contractual and payment-related issues. Since then, roads in many parts of the city have gone unswept, leading to complaints from residents and road users.

Call for Quick Action

Owaisi has requested immediate intervention from the Chief Minister and GHMC Commissioner RV Karnan to ensure that the situation is brought under control and mechanical sweeping is resumed to safeguard urban cleanliness.
